On March 18, 2023, the Rotary Club of Koronadal held a special outreach, medical and dental mission at Lamkot Elementary School in Sitio Lamkot, Brgy. Malay, Banga, South Cotabato. After the activity, one teacher told the club that in 2016 she had wished the club could reach the school, because she knew it would help, and that after six years the wish was granted.
The club had signed an MOU with DepEd Tayo Lamkot ES on December 1, 2022, tied to its sponsorship of a three-month feeding program for 132 students. That was its first look at the school and community. After a Christmas outreach on December 16, 2022, the club planned a broader medical mission that involved parents and families.
Its partners were the Philippine Association of Family Physicians Residents Organization of South Cotabato (PAFPRO), the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) of South Cotabato and the Public Health Unit of SOCCSKARGEN General Hospital. IT Avenue South Cotabato provided hygiene kits and medical supplies.
Women attended lectures on hygiene, mindfulness, family planning and nutrition, and received birth control pills, condoms and milk supplements. Men heard a lecture on fire safety and a health lecture from urologist Dr. Anthony Laurence Escovidal. Children learned about hand washing, nutrition, dental care and fluoride treatment. In all, 134 community members received medical consultation and treatment, and each family took home a hygiene package and clothes.
The club also thanked many other partners and supporters, among them Dr. Dave Mar Pelere, Dr. Kathryn Menioria, Dr. John Reuel and Charity Magan, Dr. Jasper and Vernie Dagang, Dr. Mary Grace Tamaño, Eulap Software Solutions, Mediprime Quality Medical Supplies, JUEGO, Ken's Grill and Restaurant Marbel, Marbel Boy, the Bureau of Fire Protection Banga Fire Station, the Lamkot Elementary School teachers and its Parents and Teachers Association. Rtn. Denmark Fernandez Bulan took the photos. The weather was sunny, which made travel easier.
